Speaker sessions from our event – “Can we Prevent and Cure Alzheimer’s Disease?” – are now available!

On 29th May, we welcomed an incredible crowd to St Paul’s and St George’s Church in Edinburgh. Despite an almost biblical deluge just before the doors opened, everyone in attendance was eager to listen and very kindly welcomed six of our team to share the latest developments in Alzheimer’s research and what we do at SBS.

Our CEO and founder, Prof Craig Ritchie, began the evening with a brief introduction to brain health and disease before dementia, and outlined our hopes for delivering progress through Scottish Brain Sciences.

IONA Chief Investigator, Dr Sarah Gregory, then took to the stage to explain the SBS research offer, as well as provide an overview of our Patient and Participant Involvement opportunities.

Sarah also debuted an inspiring and moving Participant video, featuring two of our IONA participants, Alison and Raymond.

After a short break, our Cognitive team, comprised of Chief Scientific Officer, Prof John Harrison, and Senior Psychologist, Dr Miles Welstead, explored cognition, how our memories function, and how we can measure change accurately.

Next, our Head of Laboratory Sciences, Dr Alison Green, outlined biomarkers and the latest tests for Alzheimer’s disease, as well as the impact they will have on diagnosis.

And finally, Head of Sport Science, Dr Stephanie Adams, took us through the changes we can make in our daily lives to positively impact our risk of future disease.

You can now view all six of these sessions, as well as the Participant video featuring Alison and Raymond, on our YouTube channel.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you at our future events!
