Our Team

Head of Sport Science, Dr Stephanie Adams is an Honorary Fellow in Brain Health in Sport at the University of Edinburgh. She has a background in neuropsychology with specialist interests in sport psychology, concussion, physical activity and health education, including work developing NHS rehabilitation programmes for people with neurological disorders and leading global online courses on concussion and brain health in sport. She has a PhD in Concussion Education and an MSc in Human Cognitive Neuropsychology. She is also the Director of Concuss-Ed and sits on the Scottish Government Concussion Advisory Group.

Dr Fiona Wilson is a Professor in the School of Medicine, and former Head of the Discipline of Physiotherapy. She has over 30 years of experience in clinical physiotherapy, teaching and research. Her research focuses on examination and synthesis of epidemiology and biomechanics to create meaningful prevention and management strategies for injury and pain in sport. Her primary focus has been on athlete pain, and she led an international consensus statement on athlete back pain. She also explores brain health and wellness in sport with a particular focus on current and retired rugby athletes. She also researches the female athlete experience from adolescence through their lifespan. She was lead physiotherapist for Rowing Ireland for 10 years and is a member of the World Rowing Sports Medicine Commission. Fiona is a Deputy Editor with the British Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport.

Dr Tina Atkinson is a sport and exercise medicine physician with a special interest in concussion in Nova Scotia, Canada and has 20 years of experience as lead physician or CMO for many National and International events. She is currently the Chief Medical Officer of the Canadian Sports Institute Atlantic working with Canadian national team athletes, Olympians and Paralympians in different sports. She has been the team physician with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Canadian Hockey League for the past 12 years and a team physician with Hockey Canada’s Women’s teams since 2016.  Dr Atkinson is a consultant for Brain Injury Nova Scotia and is a founding member of Concussion NS and has worked for many years to improve education and awareness of concussion diagnosis and management.   As well she is the clinical consultant for several current concussion research initiatives.  She recently was named the first Chief Medical Officer of the PWHL, the new professional women’s hockey league which had their first season in 2023.
