The SBS Blog – Welcome our new Research Officer to the CEO!

The SBS Blog – Welcome our new Research Officer to the CEO!

It is with great excitement that we welcome Dr Makis Tzioras to the ever-growing SBS Team!

Makis joins SBS as Research Officer to the CEO. He gained his PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2021 on the topic of neuro-immune interactions that occur in healthy ageing, Alzheimer’s disease and schizophrenia. During his PhD he developed novel biological assays to investigate how human immune glial cells in the brain interfere with neurodegeneration. He gained further expertise in neurobiology, glial biology, and Alzheimer’s disease during his two-year post-doctoral work at the University of Edinburgh.

He tells us that what brought him to Scottish Brain Sciences was his passion for “being on the frontline of AD discoveries and development,” and he hopes to further strengthen our team by translating his academic skills and experience to the clinical trial sector.

Welcome aboard, Makis!
